FROM PATIENT TO HEALER: HOW THIS WOMAN IS SAVING LIVES
Updated: May 15
A recent BBC article showed the remarkable strength of a women from Uganda who recovered from Depression and went on to help other women in her neighbourhood
When Sophia lost her husband she had young children to look after and with very little money she felt overwhelmed and depressed.
StrongMind's provided counselling for Sophia to improve her Mental Health and ability to cope. The charity offered a safe place for women to have their Therapy Sessions and overcome depression.
Although millions of people around the world are affected by depression a high percentage of these cases are located in underdeveloped or poverty stricken areas.
Unfortunately, there are only 40 psychiatrists in the whole of Uganda so StrongMind's began a Peer Therapy Program to ensure more people had access to Therapy and Counselling sessions.
StrongMind's has helped women to improve their Mental Health and go on to inspire others to do the same. It has encouraged a community to come together and support each other in difficult times.
